What is design and build?
Design and build means one company designs your project and builds it, instead of you hiring a designer and then finding a builder to follow the drawings. You deal with one firm, and the drawings are made by the people who will actually build them.Design and build means one company designs your project and builds it, instead of you hiring a designer and then finding a builder to follow the drawings.
What's included in our design and build service
- Drawings that let you see the project before it starts
- Planning support
- Structural and regulatory work handled alongside the design
- Groundworks with our own plant
- The build, roof and every trade inside
- Finishes, fittings and snagging
Why design and build is simpler than hiring separately
With design and build there is one team responsible for the lot:
- Over 40 years building in Kent, as a local family business
- One team from the first drawing to the final finish, so there is one person to talk to
- Appointed contractor for English Heritage and Natural England
- Our own plant and machinery, so groundworks start without waiting on a hire firm
- A clear quote, with the warranty for your job explained in it
Design and build or a traditional route?
In the traditional route, an architect designs, then builders tender on the drawings, and you manage the gap between them. Design and build closes that gap: the people drawing it know exactly how it will be built.
If you already have drawings, that's fine too. We can price and build from them.

What people ask
Based in Faversham, working across Kent.
How much does design and build cost?
It depends on the size of the job, the materials and what's already there, and material prices move too often for a fixed list to stay honest. Tell us what you're planning and we'll come back with a quote for your job.
Do you handle planning applications?
Yes. Planning support is part of our design and build service, with drawings that show you the project before it starts.
I already have drawings. Can you just build it?
Yes. We can quote and build from existing drawings, and flag anything that would be easier or cheaper to build another way.
Do you design for period and listed buildings?
Yes. Risdon is an appointed contractor for English Heritage and Natural England, so designs for older buildings start from how they were built.
What warranty do I get?
It depends on the job and the materials, so there isn't one blanket figure. Your quote sets out exactly what's covered for your project before you agree to anything.
Which parts of Kent do you cover?
We are based at Abbots Hill near Faversham and work across Kent. If you are not sure we cover you, ask and we will tell you straight.
