Oak and stone flooring

Why use a builder to lay an oak or stone floor?

A floor is only as good as what it sits on. Because we are builders, we can level, repair or replace the base first, sort out damp or uneven subfloors, then lay the oak or stone ourselves. On our own projects the flooring is planned in from the start, not left to the end.A floor is only as good as what it sits on.

Floors we lay
  • Solid and engineered oak boards
  • Oak parquet, including herringbone
  • Natural stone floors for kitchens, halls and bathrooms
  • Flooring as the finishing stage of extensions and renovations
  • Floors in period and listed homes
  • Subfloor repairs and levelling before the new floor goes down
Why the base matters

What you get when the people laying your floor can also fix what is under it:

  • Over 40 years building in Kent, as a local family business
  • One team from the first drawing to the final finish, so there is one person to talk to
  • Appointed contractor for English Heritage and Natural England
  • Our own plant and machinery, so groundworks start without waiting on a hire firm
  • A clear quote, with the warranty for your job explained in it
Floors in period homes

Old houses often have uneven or solid floors that need the right approach before anything new is laid on them. As an appointed contractor for English Heritage and Natural England, we look at how the floor was built before we change it.

  4. Build and handover

Questions

What people ask

Based in Faversham, working across Kent.

How much does oak or stone flooring cost?

It depends on the size of the job, the materials and what's already there, and material prices move too often for a fixed list to stay honest. Tell us what you're planning and we'll come back with a quote for your job.

Do you only lay floors as part of a bigger job?

No. Flooring is often the finishing stage of our own projects, but we also lay oak and stone floors on their own. Tell us about the room and we'll quote it.

Can you fix the subfloor first?

Yes. Because we are builders, we can repair, level or replace the base before the new floor goes down, so it stays flat and sound.

Can you lay a floor in a period or listed home?

Yes. Risdon is an appointed contractor for English Heritage and Natural England, and we work on period homes where the floor needs a careful approach.

What warranty do I get?

It depends on the job and the materials, so there isn't one blanket figure. Your quote sets out exactly what's covered for your project before you agree to anything.

Which parts of Kent do you cover?

We are based at Abbots Hill near Faversham and work across Kent. If you are not sure we cover you, ask and we will tell you straight.
